You may have noticed a new trend in cosmetology: the use of aromatherapy
and essential oils. Many companies are using natural products and
incorporating essential oils into lotions as well as skin and hair care
products. More and more people believe their allergic reactions are due
to the synthetic fragrances in many of their products and are now
seeking natural perfumes. Wouldn't you prefer to own a perfume with a
pleasant and unique scent that also delivers nature's valuable elements
to help your body and mind?
It All Makes Scents
Summer is here. Every body and face is critically checked in the mirror,
and diet recipes are shared and copied with a promise to ourselves that
we will follow a strict regime to get in shape. Can aromatherapy help?
The benefits of implementing essential oils in your daily skin care regime
will be apparent quickly. Your skin tone will be improved and
regenerated, and you will feel relaxed, happy and confident. Essential
oils are an excellent alternative to the skin conditioning offered by
cosmetic products or conventional medicine.
Essential oils in general have a tradition of use in skin care, going back
almost five thousand years. Ancient Egyptians were probably the first to
use aromatic skin care products. They used scented masks, bath, hair, or
massage oils. Essential oils may be easily incorporated into any kind of
cream, lotion, gel, or floral water. The key element when performing a
facial massage is the scent. The most pleasant scents are also the most
popular for use in skin care. Essential oils have the power to promote
the elimination of waste elements and dead cells as well as the
regeneration of new, healthy cells.
The sense of smell is so powerful that it may actually help you stick to
your diet plan and lose a few inches from your waist. How?
We have already discussed the connection between scent, memory and
emotion. We can "program" our relaxed mental-memory state with essential
oils to achieve our goals. We can help change our unhealthy diet habits
by activating our limbic brain and its centers with pleasant and
revitalizing scents. Today, psychology experts are finding a connection
between stress elevation and weight problems. Almost all of us are
inclined to eat more during stressful situations and find it difficult
to stick to an exercise regime when being weighed down by problems or
worries. The right essential oil may help you relax, add energy, or even
change your mood. A whiff of essential oil, at the right time, may even
help you feel full and satisfied. You can even induce a relaxed,
satisfied feeling in your brain with the help of an aromatic scent.
After a few days of "building the association," you can use the same
scent to help you stick to your diet resolution. To create your own
blend, choose oils that you are not very familiar with. This will enable
you to build a new association with the new scent. When having a
massage, use the same scent every time. You will start to create a
connection between the scent and relaxation. After a time, you will
start to relax as soon as you smell the aroma.
Here are some pleasant oil combinations to help you achieve your summer
goals:

A lot of people are struggling with cellulite problems. Through hot summer
months we tend to be even more worried about how our body looks. We may
be more focused on our appearance due to having lost the possibility to
"cover" ourselves in safe winter clothes.
Cellulite is an accumulation of fat cells that hardens, leaving the
surrounding tissue with lost elasticity. Cellulite can be caused by a
weak circulation system, an unhealthy diet, hormonal changes, or a poor
lymphatic system. Treatment is not easy and it can be a very long
battle. The first and most important step is to change your dietary
habits by drinking a lot of water, minimizing dairy products and adding
more raw vegetables, vitamins and minerals.
You can increase blood circulation in these areas by brushing the skin
before a shower or bath. Massage your problematic areas every day with a
blend of essential oils and carrier oil.
Some excellent oils to help promote skin softness are Grapefruit, Orange,
Wild Rosemary, Fennel, Cypress, Lemon, Lemongrass, Cedarwood or Thyme.
Try this oil combination or explore new possibilities by combining your
favorite oil with an essential oil for cellulite:

Aging Gracefully
Whether we are young or old, healthy or frail, essential oils can enhance
our life and help promote overall well-being. Medical research has
proven a strong connection between positive mood and good health.
Aromatherapy may help bring out the young person living inside an elderly
body. It may also enable elderly people to become more aware and
appreciative of their senses. Essential oils may bring back pleasant
memories and by that, promote happy, optimistic feelings. Therapeutic
massage combined with essential oils can help to create a sense of
comfort, acceptance and reassurance for elderly people.
Here are some examples of how we can help our loved ones:
-
Circulatory system - Essential
oils added into a massage lotion may support the circulatory system
in elderly people. The best oils for this are Wild Rosemary, Cyprus,
Lavender or Marjoram. To assist the circulation system, use a very
gentle partial massage. Do not use pressure on the veins; massage
only the parts above or below the fragile vein walls. After
massaging the legs, always cover them with a warm blanket.
-
-
Occasional Sleeplessness - In
a study in the British medical journal, elderly patients having
difficulty falling asleep reported marked improvement when Lavender
oil was diffused in their bedroom.
-
-
Stress - In a special study,
122 intensive care patients reported feeling much better when
treated with massage combined with lavender essential oil rather
than massage alone.
-
Respiratory system - Essential
oils that assist the respiratory system are Eucalyptus, Lemon, Wild
Rosemary, Geranium, Frankincense or Lavender. Use in a diffuser, in
simple steam inhalation, as part of a massage or in a bath. To
inhale, put four drops of Eucalyptus into a bowl of hot water, cover
your head with towel and inhale deeply.
-
Caution -
Use essential oils carefully and wisely. They are a potent
concentration formed by nature's wisdom.
-
Eucalyptus
(Eucalyptus globulus) - A traditional oil for a healthy respiratory
system, Eucalyptus is an important part of many medicinal
preparations, particularly vapor rubs and other cold and chest
products. It has a clean, sharp and distinguishable camphor aroma
with a sweet undertone. The name Eucalyptus comes from the Greek
word eucalyptos meaning "covered or wrapped." In archaic times, it
was called the "fever tree." Australian Aborigines crushed the
leaves and put them on the skin. Eucalyptus oil was listed in the
1885 edition of the British Pharmacopeia.
-
Eucalyptus
is a supportive choice for dealing with the respiratory system.
After heavy work or exercise, the right massage enriched with
eucalyptus can help alleviate sore muscles. Eucalyptus may help
reduce the intensity of minor headaches. Simply massage your temples
with 2-3 drops of eucalyptus diluted in one tablespoon of mixing
oil. Opening a bottle of eucalyptus oil and deeply inhaling a few
times directly from the bottle may also help.
-
When used
in a bath (8-10 drops), eucalyptus may support a healthy urinary
system and a strong immune system. It can also help to speed
recovery from slow healing burns and wounds. Insects dislike the
pungent, camphor-like aroma of Eucalyptus. This is good news for the
upcoming summer months.
-
Eucalyptus
oil helps to clear minor, non-cystic acne problems or skin blemishes
by reducing the oiliness of the skin. Eucalyptus is also an
essential component of sauna products.
-
Eucalyptus
is a stimulating and refreshing oil that may help restore emotional
balance and promote concentration. Used in diffusers or vaporizers,
it helps cleanse and refresh the air

Oil of the month
Geranium (Pelargonium
odorantissimum)
The
aromatic properties of Geranium have much to offer to a
stressed-out, often harried world. Long considered an exquisite
perfume, geranium essential oil invites feelings of relaxation while
it eases feelings of stress and nervous tension. 100% pure essential
oil of Geranium is distilled in Egypt from the "apple geranium" a
variety of geranium highly regarded for its soothing influence upon
the mind and body. Beloved by women for its harmonizing influence
upon the hormones, Geranium's pleasing scent offers respite from the
stresses of everyday life.
Geranium
essential oil is distilled from the leaves, flowers, and stem of the
Pelargonium odorantissimum -a variety of geranium often referred to
as the "apple geranium. Although geraniums are cultivated in various
regions throughout Africa, our Geranium essential oil is distilled
from plants that are harvested in Egypt, where the practice of using
scented oils and resins has thrived since the days of the Great
Pyramids.
Endowed
with a sweet, fruity aroma the oil of the geranium has been
traditionally used to calm stress and anxiety and to help dispel
fatigue and depression. Geranium may soothe a variety of conditions
when diffused into a room with our Crystal Jet Diffuser or when
applied topically with our Mixing Oil Blend or Tangible Massage
Lotion. By easing feelings of tension, irritability and depression,
Geranium may help women deal with symptoms of PMS and menopause.
In
addition, Geranium can be used as a skin tonic and an astringent,
and as a pleasantly scented alternative to traditional bug
repellents.
Diverse in
its uses and potent in its effects, Geranium essential oil engenders
feelings of peace, security, and health throughout the mind and
body. Invite the warming, refreshing romance of Egyptian geraniums
into your life with Geranium.
Aromatherapists sum up the reaction to rose geranium as physically
and emotionally "balancing. The scent is good for those who feel
overly emotional and need more stability. Experimental clinics in
Azbajian found it successful for this and also to stabilize blood
pressure, increasing or lowering it a few points depending upon the
individual needs. It also acts as a sedative to induce sleep. In
cosmetics, it's suitable for all complexion types and is said to
slow the skin's aging process. As a salve, cream, lotion, or massage
oil, geranium essential oil treats a long list of skin problems and
fights bacteria, viruses, and fungi. As a result, it is known to
relieve inflammation, eczema, acne, burns, infected wounds,
ringworm, lice, shingles, and herpes blisters. It also helps remove,
or at least prevent, scarring and stretch marks. It's excellent for
treating hormonally related problems, such as PMS, menopause, and
fluid retention. In its native Africa, the herb tea is used to stop
diarrhea and internal bleeding.
PMS -
Geranium oil eases premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms. With its
diuretic action, it combats fluid retention; it may also reduce
breast tenderness. A bath with Geranium Oil provides relief for
menstrual pain and cramps. Add 6 drops of geranium oil, and 2 drops
of clary-sage oil to 1-˝ cups of whole milk and pour it into your
bath water; soak in the tub for at least 30 min. or more.
Insect
Repellant - Geranium oil is especially well suited to warding off
insects, particularly mosquitoes. The following mixture used in an
aromatic diffuser provides for perfect insect-free evenings. 5 drops
Geranium Oil, 3 drops Clove Oil
Insect
Bites - Geranium can help with the aggravation of swollen, itching
mosquito bites. Simply dilute 2 drops of pure geranium oil in 1
ounce of witch hazel. Dab on the affected area with a cotton ball.
This will help the swelling go down use 2 drops Geranium Oil and 1
Ounce Witch Hazel
Shoes can
be freshened by either dropping a few drops of Geranium essential
oil directly into the shoes or by placing a cotton ball dabbed with

Acne -
Geranium is an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. After daily
cleansing, dab a little of Geranium & witch hazel dilution on
individual pimples with a cotton ball. 2 drops Geranium Oil and 1
Ounce Witch Hazel
Relax and
Pamper Yourself - If plants could speak, the message from the
Geranium would be, "Don’t do a thing, let yourself be, pampered. The
oils relax the body and soften the skin.
Memory,
Concentration & Focus - You can begin to feel more in control of
your hectic life and decrease absentmindedness by inhaling the scent
of Geranium Oil. The clear light scent will aid you in organizing
your thoughts and improving your memory. You can also mix 2 drops of
geranium oil with 2 drops of Rosemary oil to enliven your senses.

truck driver! 2 drops of Geranium Oil and 2 drops of Rosemary Oil.
Skin -

stimulating action helps boost the regeneration of skin cells and
aids the healing of acne and blemishes. Diluted, it also helps
control excessive oiliness of the skin and soothe dry, and sensitive
skin. The Geranium Oil will give your skin a healthy glow, making it
appear more youthful and radiant.
Edema,
Swelling & The Lymph Nodes - To reduce swelling in legs, rub them
with a mixture of 3 tbsp of sweet-almond oil, 8 drops of Geranium
Oil and 5 drops of Lemon Oil. After applying the mixture, elevate
