RISK by Samuel E. Epstein, M.D. How to Avoid Cancer from Cosmetics and
Personal Care Products:
The Neways Story
This book explains how to
recognize carcinogens on product labels, boycott such products, and
shop for safe alternatives from non-mainstream industries and thus
reduce your avoidable risks of cancer. This is critical as we
are losing the winnable war against cancer, which now strikes one in
two men and one in three women in their lifetimes

Anti-Aging Choices and
Healthy Lifestyles Newsletter October, 2006

In this Issue
It has been a Hot summer here in Illinois.
I thought we were on our way to a perfect Fall, my favorite time of
year. However, today, October 1st the temperatures are in
the 80's and tomorrow in the 90's. I am ready for the beauty of
Fall - the cooler crisp air - sitting by a camp fire and enjoying the
company of family and friends. Carving pumpkins with my grandchildren
and preparing for the Holiday season.
Here are other things we will be thinking about during the Fall and
Winter months.

This time of year is also the start of the cold and flu season, so I
step up my use of my favorite therapeutic essential oils to help keep
the cold and flu bug away from my door.
Some of my favorite essential oil blends and singles are:
Eucalyptus
essential oil is highly antiseptic but also very
inexpensive, so it's used liberally in aftershaves,
colognes, mouthwashes, and household cleansers.
Researches found that the scent provides a real wake-up
call; so using these products should help you get
through the day. The essential oil of eucalyptus, or
its main component eucalyptol, is used in many drugstore
products as a liniment for sore muscles, in vapor rubs
for lung and sinus congestion, in skin blemishes / oily
complexion lotions and creams, and in shampoo for oily
hair. Many people use either eucalyptus leaves or the
essential oil in steam baths and saunas by placing a few
drops on the hot rocks so that the scent fills the
room. Eucalyptus is also one of the strongest essential
oils to fight viral infections like flu, herpes,
blisters, chicken pox and helps boost the body's immune
system.
Peppermint -
Peppermint essential oil as a massage oil over the
abdomen relaxes the muscles to help in the digestion of
heavy meals and relieves flatulence, cramping, nausea,
and specific disorders such as irritable bowel
syndrome. It is a warming oil, so it's found in most
liniments to relieve painful muscle spasms and arthritic
conditions. Peppermint oil relieves the itching of
ringworm, herpes blisters, scabies, and poison oak and
ivy and stimulates oil production in dry skin and hair.
Many bacterial, fungal, and viral infections are
destroyed by it and when inhaled or when a vapor balm is
rubbed on the chest. It clears sinus and lung
congestion. The scent is energizing, and historically,
it was said to be an aphrodisiac.
Healthy
- Immune System - Healthy
is a blend for the immune system, boosts your immune system health and supports
your body as it wards off colds and flu. A composite blend of 10 single
species essential oils, Healthy encourages your body to stay strong when
those thieves of good health - germs, viruses, and other immuno-depressants -
attempt to rob you of your vitality. With a spirited aroma, Healthy
lives up to its name and leaves you with feelings of health, vigor, and
energy. Healthy is a propriety blend of lemon, grapefruit,
rosemary, thyme serpolet, ginger root, elemi, lavender, and peppermint.
This calming blend of natural
essential oils can help any baby or frazzled parent feel at ease in the
bathtub or relax during massage. Chamomile has long been known for
calming properties, while soothing lavender has a clean, fresh scent.
Quiescence - Relaxation and Sleep -
Quiescence
is a soothing blend that helps promote the sleep and relaxation that is
essential to good health. This proprietary formula is made up of six
calming essential oils carefully selected for their ability to help promote rest
and repose. Lavender helps soothe stress and worry, sweet orange and
mandarin foster feelings of comfort, rosewood and clary sage ease feelings of
nervous tension, and Cedarwood helps calm the body's reaction to stress. Quiescence
is a proprietary blend of orange, rosewood, mandarin, cedarwood, clary sage and
lavender. Try Quiescence for your child to
help ward against crankiness and encourage naptime.
Respire - Colds/congestion -
Respire
is an aromatherapy blend designed for colds and congestion,
boasting a healthy host of eight essential oils carefully chosen
for their ability to help maintain the functioning of both the
respiratory and immune systems. Tea tree helps the body fight
against infection, Scotch pine needles help ease blocked sinuses
and nasal congestion, and the penetrating, camphoraceous aroma of
eucalyptus encourages respiratory health. Respire is a proprietary
blend of eucalyptus, tea tree, lemon, lavender, thyme, and
peppermint.

Expectorant during Cold and Flu Season
Black Pepper is another essential oil to have on hand during
cold and flu season. Used in an inhalation blend it is an effective expectorant.
Good for the lungs.
-
80 drops
Eucalyptus
-
40 drops Basil
-
20 drops
Fennel
-
20 drops Black
Pepper
-
20 drops
Birch.
Blend together and keep on hand to use in your diffuser.

My very favorite essential oil for this time of year is
Eternal Noel.
Eternal Noel captures the spirit
and festivity of the holiday season with its spicy blend.
Orange warms the soul, while tangerine, pine needle, and
patchouli oils cheer the mind. The sweet-spicy scent of
clove bud mingled with cinnamon bark and fennel produce a
flavorful fragrance sure to enliven the holiday spirit.
Frankincense uplifts the mind and peppermint refreshes the
senses.
In a spray bottle, combine 20-25 drops
of Eternal Noel per 1 ounce of distilled water. Shake. Spray
throughout your home to freshen up the air and enjoy the festive aroma
plus kill infections, bacteria or germs that may be brought in by family
and friends. Everyone will enjoy a healthy holiday.
It is great to put
Eternal Noel in a diffusor - you turn the diffusor on 2-3 times during
the day for 15 -20 minutes.
This can also be used in
a vaporizer. In the medicine cup, put a few drops of a vegetable
oil or Neways
mixing oil and 3-4 drops of Eternal Noel or your favorite essential
oil. It will disinfect a sick room or your whole house.
Protect yourself and your children from
constant exposure to infections, bacteria or germs at school and work.
Put few drops of Eternal Noel, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree or
your favorite therapeutic essential oil on a cotton ball or Kleenex and
put in a pocket or tape to skin (stomach) with a Band-Aid - women can
put in your bras. You can also use Eucalyptus, Lavender or Tea
Tree.
The following are the
oils that make up the Eternal Noel Blend.
-
Orange
– warms the soul and is a favorite for soothing the spirit.
Orange can be wonderful for helping to lift your mood during times
of stress. It aids the nervous and digestive systems.
-

healthy digestive system. It is useful for muscle and abdominal
cramps.
-

for fungus related problems
-
Patchouli
– Is valuable in the treatment of skin conditions and for stress.
-
Clove
Bud – Assists the immune system. Traditionally used to relieve
toothaches.
-
Cinnamon Bark – The bark of the cinnamon tree has been
historically used to assist with intestinal and immune system health
it is an anti-inflammatory agent.
-
Fennel
– Assist against the appearance of cellulite. May assist in
digestion. Has historically been used during lactation.
-
Frankincense – Is an excellent oil for maturing skin.
Frankincense encourages deep, rhythmic breathing and relaxed state
of mind.
-
Peppermint – sooths the digestive system while stimulating the
immune system, respiratory and nervous systems.
If you are not familiar with
therapeutic essential oils, you can actually replace everything in your
medicine cabinet with therapeutic essential oils.
One should not deny themselves the
pleasure of pure essential oils from around the world.

Uses
for Peroxide
(Safer and Healthier than Bleach)
Going along with the
theme of protecting your family from unwanted infections, bacteria,
building your immune system this winter. I would like to share the
following article.
This was
written by Becky Ramsey of Indiana (a doctor's wife), and I want to
share it with you. She recently visited a friend for coffee and smelled the
bleach her friend was using to clean her toilet and countertops. This is what she
said ...
I would
like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little ole bottle of 3%
peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. What does bleach
cost? My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years,
and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide. Have you ever smelled
bleach in a doctor's office?
NO!!! Why?
Because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask the nurses who work in the
doctor's offices, and ask them if they use bleach at home. They are
wiser and know better!
Did you
also know bleach was invented in the late 40's? It's chlorine, Folks!
And it was used to kill our troops. Peroxide was invented during WWI in
the 20's. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our troops
and hospitals. Please think about this.
1. Take one
capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in
your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I
bathe.) No more canker sores and your teeth will be whiter without
expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash
2. Let your
toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.
3. Clean
your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a
fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray
it on the counters.
4. After
rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill
salmonella and other bacteria.
5. I had
fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide
and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.
6. Soak any
infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times
a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would? not heal with any
medicine? but was healed by soaking in peroxide.
7. Fill a
spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in
every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like
bleach or most other disinfectants will.
8. Tilt
your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever
you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill the
bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.
9. If you
have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a
capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes
several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.
10. And of
course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50
solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will
not have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages but
more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, faddish, or dirty
blonde. It also lightens gradually, so it's not a drastic change.
11. Put
half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or
other skin infections.
12. You can
also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your
laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour it directly
on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with
cold water. Repeat if necessary
13. I use
peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is why I love
it so much for this.
I could go
on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without! With
prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons
of money in such a simple, healthy manner!
