Oregano

No one in America seems to know a great deal about oil of oregano, although everyone is familiar with the pizza spice.  The plant from which oil of Oregano is derived is different than the oregano with which we are familiar.  It is a substance derived from a special species of wild oregano, which is botanically and chemically distinct compared to commercial oregano.  Oregano studies

Oregano is one of the most effective antiseptic essential oils for all kinds of infections.  This antiviral remedy helps stimulate the stomach and the appetite and helps treat hiccups and dyspepsia.  Oregano also loosens phlegm, calms coughing spells, and helps treat chronic bronchitis.  Topically oregano has been used to help treat cellulite, eczema, psoriasis and chronic skin problems.  Using oregano in a sitz bath or as a massage oil may help relieve menstrual problems.  Use Oregano in a sitz bath or as a massage oil may help relieve menstrual problems.  Apply Oregano to insect stings and bits.

In the book, "The Cure is in the Cupboard: How to Use Oregano for Better Health" by Dr. Cass Ingram, it states that oregano oil has been tested against a variety of microorganisms and is found to exert a high degree of anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, anti-viral and antibacterial actions. Oregano is perhaps the most powerful herbal anti-fungal agent known. Its effectiveness is enhanced by its safety, since it is non-toxic. Oregano is such a potent anti fungal agent that it is capable of destroying even resistant fungal forms such as the mutated fungi which result from antibiotic therapy.

Two things survive the nuclear bomb tests of the 1950s: cockroaches and yeasts. Yet, the virtually indestructible yeasts failed to escape a natural substance: oil of oregano. Researchers at Georgetown University proved that oil of wild oregano, the high mountain variety, completely destroyed yeasts in petri dishes.

Also at Georgetown University, a landmark study was completed using oil of oregano against a common fungus which infects humans: Candida albicans. Candida is a difficult to kill fungus that causes vast health problems. The OREGANO Oil killed all of the Candida in the petri dish, even in a tiny concentration---in other words, it only took a small amount of oregano oil to kill the fungus. Oil of OREGANO has been evaluated  thoroughly in the test tube regarding its antiseptic powers.  As described by Sarer and colleagues in Essential Oils and Aromatic Plants, extracts of rather mild species showed "remarkable effects" against a wide range of microbes.  The authors note how the oil and its derivatives completely inhibited the growth of various fungi which attack the skin, while strongly inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans.

A recent study compared the anti-Candida effect of OREGANO oil to that of caprylic acid. The results indicated that oregano oil is over 100 times more potent than caprylic acid against Candida.
